HAYDEN EVERETT KENNECOTT

Alt-folk has spent a few years building into a powerhouse of modern music, and Hayden Everett’s latest single proves why. ‘Kennecott’ is a laid-back track full of feeling – acoustic guitars, a rolling snare pattern and occasional string interjections connect the tune to the folk genre in its purest form, but pop hooks and ethereal, backing-vocal-laden passages modernise and expand his songwriting approach. The track’s intention is to share a message of environmental beauty and protection. It is “written from the perspective of Kennecott, an Alaskan mining town abandoned in the 1930’s, the track is a protective plea to be in awe of nature rather than exploit it, and a timely reminder that there is so much more to find than wealth.” Listen out for more from Everett this year. -Dan Peeke
